From 21 October to 14 November 2021, churches in Latvia will be open from 6.00 to 19.00 - for individual attendance only and in strict compliance with the epidemiological safety measures. Visitors of churches must also maintain a distance of two meters and use a mask covering the mouth and the nose.
At least 15 m2 of the available area of the church must be ensured per person, not exceeding 20% of the total capacity permitted by the area and infrastructure accessible to the visitors.
Given the prevalence of Covid-19 infection, all religious organizations are called upon to broadcast services remotely to reduce contacts.
The only exception in regard to the working hours of churches shall apply from 4 November 2021 to 7 November 2021, when spiritual and service staff shall perform their duties without a restriction of the working hours, as this period is devoted to Mārtiņi, a historical pagan celebration that is especially important for the representatives of dievturi denomination.
The Ministry of Justice has addressed all religious unions (churches) about the need to comply with the epidemiological safety requirements set in the country.
The Ministry of Justice also points out that religious organizations must cooperate with the State Police and other institutions to ensure public order and epidemiological requirements.
