In the frame of TAIEX (Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument) project “Study visit on EU best practice for approximation system and procedures” The Ministry of Justice of Republic of Latvia is hosting a study visit for Armenian colleagues: Coordinating Adviser for the International Legal Cooperation of the Ministry of Justice Amalia Hovsepyan, Assistant to the Deputy Prime Minister Ani Babayan and Deputy Head of International Legal Cooperation of the Ministry of Justice Alen Mkrtchyan. The aim of the visit is to learn Latvian experiences, in particular the role of the Ministry of Justice in the process of transportation of the EU law into the national legal system, including coordination, monitoring, practical aspects tools and methods used. In addition, focusing on the overall coordination model, and forms of interinstitutional coordination, as well as the role of other public institution in the process of approximation.
The study visit takes place between 19th and 22nd of November in the Ministry of Justice of Republic of Latvia. The Armenian delegation is meeting with experts from various institutions: Ministry of Justice, Court Administration, State Language Center, Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, Saeima (the parliament of Latvia), State Chancellery, Cross-sectoral Coordination Center, Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau, Latvian Institute of International affairs, NGO "Povidus" and representatives of European Human rights institutions. Topics of the visit include: coordination of transposition of the EU law into the national legislation of Latvia, monitoring and reporting to the EU about the EU law transposed, legal terminology issues, coordination of public policies, coordination of state development strategies and its relations with EU affairs, inter-institutional coordination mechanisms, public consultation related to the Latvian legislation aimed at transposition of the EU law, anti-corruption policy, practical application and enforcement, justice reform, human rights issues and others.
In the 19th of November the visit was officially opened with the presence of the state secretary Raivis Kronbergs and ambassador of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Mkrtchyan. The representatives from the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Latvia showed appreciation of the honour of hosting the visit and both parties agreed they are looking forward to a further collaboration in future projects.
