On Thursday, 11thof April, the Minister of Justice Jānis Bordāns visited the Patent Office (PO). Within the visit, the PO Director Sandris Laganovskis presented the results of the institution's work and the improvements made in ensuring the quality of service delivery, including the implementation of e-services.
During the visit, the Minister of Justice Jānis Bordāns stressed the increasing role of intellectual property and its protection in promoting the economy, attracting investments, as well as promoting innovative activities of entrepreneurs.
The PO Director Sandris Laganovskis during the meeting emphasized that compared with 2017, trends in the field of applications for national trademarks, patents and design are positive, since 157 applications for designs, 2070 applications for trademarks and 110 applications for patents were received in 2018.
In addition, Sandris Laganovsky informed that the PO will conclude this year the introduction of digitization in all services of the institution. At present, already 60% of all services provided by the PO are in the e-environment, thus facilitating and simplifying the registration of industrial property objects and related procedures.
At the end of the visit, the Minister of Justice welcomed the work done by the PO in protecting intellectual property rights, informing the public and raising awareness about the importance of protecting intellectual property rights.
