On Wednesday, 19 August, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the Prosecutor General and the State Police signed the memorandum about the cooperation for protection of human rights of the nationals of Latvia abroad within the framework of international cooperation in criminal law.
The memorandum provides for operative information exchange between these Latvian authorities and coordinated action in cases, when a national of Latvia is arrested or sentenced in a foreign country and possible violations of human rights are visible. The memorandum will facilitate protection of rights and legal interests of the nationals of Latvia and adoption of the most appropriate decisions for each situation.
As early as possible commencement of coordination of the activities of competent authorities may significantly facilitate faster achievement of the solution corresponding to the interests of the national of Latvia.
