28.04.2020 On Tuesday, April 28, the Cabinet of Ministers supported the plan of measures developed by the Ministry of Justice and other responsible institutions to implement the recommendations of the Phase 3 assessment of Latvia conducted by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Working Group on Anti-Bribery with the aim to improve Latvia’s capabilities in identifying and investigating cross-border corruption and related crimes (money laundering, financial crime, including accounting irregularities).

28.04.2020 On Tuesday, April 28, the Cabinet of Ministers supported the draft laws developed by the Ministry of Justice, which envisage ensuring the ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on Offenses Related to Cultural Property (the Convention) and Latvia's national regulation in compliance with the Convention. The Convention was signed on behalf of Latvia on 22 February 2018 by the Minister of Justice.

Bordāns: children removed from a family living in Germany as a result of timely and coordinated action now in family placement in Latvia

21.04.2020 Due to the successfully implemented measures for the protection of children's rights, the Ministry of Justice has succeeded in bringing two children from a family living in Germany into the care of their relatives in Latvia. In March this year, one of the German regional courts decided to appoint their grandparents as guardians of both children. Both children are already in Latvia and have successfully completed a 14-day self-isolation process due to an emergency situation.

Indeed, should any legislation that affects, for example, the appearance of uniforms of firefighters or police officers be considered and agreed by all ministers at a Cabinet meeting? In my opinion, applying the principle of collective responsibility to such regulatory enactments, which are the responsibility of only one minister, is an inefficient waste of time. However, despite the question always “hanging in the air”, the previous governments have not supported this solution.
