12.05.2020 In accordance with the decision of 7 May 2020 of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Justice, upon amending the order No. 103 of the Cabinet of Ministers of 12 March 2020 “Regarding declaration of the emergency situation”, the Ministry of Justice informs about the operation of religious organisations as of 12 May 2020.
12.05.2020 Taking into account the decision made during the meeting of government last week regarding ease of restrictions for organization of public events, as of 12 May of the current year also the Latvian courts will gradually resume their oral court hearings in presence, where it will be possible to ensure the requirements determined by the Cabinet of Ministers with regard to indoor gatherings, at the same time taking into account the restrictions determined in relation of convoying of arrested persons, which is still terminated.

The way of acting of the former Director General of the State Land Service will be evaluated also by law enforcement authorities11.05.2020 Pursuant to the decision of the Minister of Justice Jānis Bordāns, the materials of the disciplinary case, initiated against Solvita Zvidriņa, the Director General of the State Land Service (SLS) are forwarded to the General Prosecutor’s Office for performance of examination and adoption of the relevant decision.

30.04.2020 The emergency has had a significant impact on the functioning of the judiciary: the authorities need to adapt to national security and precautionary measures. Visitors are encouraged to use some of the services remotely, proceedings are organized in writing as far as possible, and access to prisons and other on-site facilities is limited. The LV portal asked the representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Courthouse Agency, the Court Administration and the State Land Service whether the judicial system was ready for the crisis, what solutions have been implemented and how this experience could be used when thinking about the operation of the judicial system in the future.
